Hey fellow phillumenists! We hope this November newsletter finds you well post-spooky season.
Out with the old, in with the new—it’s time to dive into a Washington DC matchbook guide just in time for Thanksgiving. After having explored DC’s vibrant streets in person many years ago, I can still recall the charm of its historic avenues, cozy corners, and the crisp fall air that makes the city come alive with the warmth of the season. This guide captures all those unforgettable DC moments—and, of course, serves as a must-have playbook for all of you fellow matchbook seekers too.
So, imagine the thrill of building your Washingtonian matchbook collection: an afternoon coffee at a Dupont Circle café with leaves falling outside, a happy hour near the Washington Monument as the early evening lights come on, and a nightcap in Georgetown. We’ve gathered tips from locals and enthusiasts who know where the best matchbooks are hiding in DC’s classic spots this fall.
Here’s your Capitol City collection, a guide to Washington DC’s coziest places where you can find matchbooks for the taking. If you’re around this season, give these spots a visit and enjoy the food, drinks, and the snuggly ambiance of fall.
As always, this guide is a work in progress—and that’s where you come in. If you’re a DC local or recently visited, drop any matchbook sightings from favorite restaurants, shops, or bars we haven’t yet included.
We’ll keep this guide updated with fresh finds, perfect for your fall strolls. Some places may have retired their matchbooks, so take this list as a starting point. And if you come across any changes, let us know to help keep our collector community up to date.
See you at Christmas!
